For the first time, the automotive industry has access to a common implementation of the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform, including source code and code generators. Companies can now evaluate, use, extend and contribute to the implementation while benefiting from AUTOSAR's proven architecture, global ecosystem and governance. CAPI source code is also accessible for all AUTOSAR partners.
CAPI 1.0 Release Content and Possibilities:
Base implementation of AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform for use in production
Shared specification, source code and code generators for development, evaluation and improvement
Industry-wide collaboration and technical contributions
Faster adoption of the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform and incremental iterations
Reduced implementation effort
Increased interoperability across the automotive ecosystem
From Vision to Release in one Year
CAPI represents one of the fastest strategic initiatives in AUTOSAR's history, demonstrating what can be achieved through strong industry collaboration.
Within one year, from project kick off to release, CAPI evolved from an idea into an executable implementation available to the global automotive industry.
Strong Industry Momentum
Interest in CAPI has grown rapidly across the automotive ecosystem. Even before the official release, multiple OEMs, suppliers and technology companies requested access and expressed their intention to contribute to future releases.
At the same time, AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform continues its strong production momentum and is already deployed in production vehicle programs at leading automotive manufacturers, including: Audi, BAIC, BMW, Changan, Dongfeng, Geely, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, SAIC, Volkswagen, Volvo, XPENG, Xiaomi with many additional vehicle programs currently under development.
These deployments demonstrate that AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform has become a proven foundation for centralized compute architectures, software-defined, AI-defined, and customer-defined vehicles.
Thomas Rüping, Chairperson of AUTOSAR, said:
“CAPI 1.0 marks an important milestone in AUTOSAR's evolution from defining standards to enabling executable software. It demonstrates how industry collaboration can accelerate innovation while preserving the safety, quality and interoperability that define AUTOSAR.”
Joachim Langenwalter, Spokesperson of AUTOSAR, added:
“CAPI is more than a software release - it establishes a new way of developing automotive software through executable implementations, shared contributions and AI-native engineering. This is an important step toward AUTOSAR's vision of becoming the global software platform for Software-Defined and AI-Defined Vehicles.”
A special thank you to iSOFT for delivering the first major CAPI implementation contribution. The live demonstration of a production-ready implementation marks the transition of CAPI from a strategic initiative into an executable software platform.
Building the Future Together
CAPI introduces a new collaboration model for AUTOSAR by combining standardized specifications with executable implementations and an open contribution model.
AUTOSAR welcomes contributions from OEMs, suppliers, semiconductor companies, software providers, tool vendors, universities, and developers worldwide.
A New Chapter for AUTOSAR
The release of CAPI 1.0 represents more than a software release. It marks the beginning of a new chapter for AUTOSAR.
For over twenty years, AUTOSAR has established the global foundation for automotive software through standardized architectures and interfaces. With CAPI, AUTOSAR now extends this foundation with executable software, enabling the industry to move faster from specification to implementation while preserving the qualities that have made AUTOSAR the trusted backbone of automotive software: safety, interoperability, portability and long-term stability.
