AUTOSAR and OPEN Alliance Announce Collaboration

AUTOSAR™ and OPEN Alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a collaboration liaison. The goal is to strengthen international standardization and enhance information exchange in the automotive development ecosystem.

This landmark joint technical collaboration will focus on aligning requirements and developments related to Automotive Ethernet communication and associated technologies, including Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), SOME/IP, and MACsec, particularly in safety- and cybersecurity-critical use cases. By ensuring consistency in standardization activities, the cooperation aims to address functional safety and cybersecurity requirements while avoiding duplication of work.

“We are delighted to announce this new collaboration with AUTOSAR,” said OPEN Alliance Secretary and Renesas Networking Specialist Tobias Belitz. “Much like OPEN Alliance, it is a global organization encompassing leading companies within the automotive and software industry, with a unified mission to develop and establish an optimal networking strategy for modern vehicles. We look forward to working with AUTOSAR to enable greater wide scale adoption of Ethernet-based connectivity.”

“AUTOSAR warmly welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with OPEN Alliance as an AUTOSAR Attendee.” said Thomas Rüping, chairperson of AUTOSAR. “This collaboration strengthens our joint effort to advance Automotive Ethernet and Automotive Ethernet based technologies, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and safety use cases. In consequence the collaboration will further support the global automotive industry and foster the advancement of automotive software development worldwide.”

Both parties have agreed to align their standardization activities and harmonize development results.

In the spirit of the MoU, both parties aim to strengthen the Automotive Development Ecosystem through this collaborative liaison and to encourage their members to participate in this ongoing cooperation. AUTOSAR and OPEN Alliance will participate in each other's events to make joint or individual development and standardization results available to a broader audience.
