Kenji Hontani is an active member of the AUTOSAR steering committee representing Toyota Motor Corporation. He is responsible for vehicle software development at TMC and has represented TMC in AUTOSAR in various working groups. Formerly, he was part of the AUTOSAR Project Leader Team. In his new position, Kenji Hontani will oversee administration, finances, internal coordination and AUTOSAR business development for his term of office. He follows Michael Niklas, Head of Software Standards at Continental AG.
“First, I would like to thank Michael Niklas for his remarkable commitment during his term of office,” said Kenji Hontani. “Safety and security play a key role in the continuous improvement of the quality and features of both Classic and Adaptive Platform. With the next joint releases of all AUTOSAR platforms, we want to further strengthen the safety and security aspects so that the application of the standard, and its integration as a worldwide standard, successfully continues.”
Kenji Hontani is currently engaged in the pre-development of architectures for high-performance ECUs. From 2014 to 2017 he was temporary transferred to Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA and participated in AUTOSAR as a Project Leader, where he took over the role as a coach for security and system test working packages. He started his career at Toyota Motor Corp. in 2004 with electronic architecture, mainly gateway ECU and AUTOSAR software deployment. In 2002, he graduated from Osaka University with a degree in Information Systems Engineering.
Rinat Asmus holds a master’s degree in mechanics, robotics and automation engineering from the University of Applied Science in Würzburg-Schweinfurt and joined BMW in 2009. Since then, he has been engaged in positions as Software Architect, Electronic Engineer and AUTOSAR Project Leader. In 2020, Rinat Asmus takes over the role as AUTOSAR Steering Committee member representing BMW. His perspective is to enable AUTOSAR standardization as a comprehensive foundation and reusable baseline for ECU series development.

Therefore, it is more important than ever to find technical compatibility and an efficient international collaboration with other standards and technologies.”
In addition, Christian Nickl from Continental AG, who is working in the AUTOSAR Project Leader Team, is the new Speaker of the PL Team. As Speaker, he will support the Steering Committee and communicate internally as well as externally on behalf of the Project Leader Team to improve the quality and features of the AUTOSAR platforms.
